Shaking Things Up Like Leaves on a Tree
Hello Friends and Subscribers! It’s been a busy month of travel, family, and a bit of downtime. Join me on a journey as I explore community, family, and faith, which have given me a much-needed perspective on my writing life and life itself.
Helpers
We know who they are. They’re friends, colleagues, and people in our community. But sometimes we have to seek them out. When I’m stuck with the direction of a project, or I need feedback to give me that extra boost, I have to let go of my need to control. I have to find the humility to seek out a helper. One day, I came across that helper. She’s a freelance editor who specializes in nonfiction stories—perfect! And she was great. We hit it off. She gave me excellent ideas for improving a project, including a writing tool I’d never seen before that helped me to improve the writing for an agent's eye, and hopefully lead to publication. Because of this experience, I decided I want to help other writers improve their writing with editorial services and coaching sessions to support them on their journey. I’ll keep you posted!
Roots
My husband and I visited Ireland this month. It’s a place I’ve always felt a deep connection to. It was also a trip to help the two of us reconnect and to experience life on our terms. Taking time to travel and be with your best friend to see beautiful sights, laugh at silly things, or sing Irish pub songs with locals makes life rich, and the writing life richer. I’m grateful to be able to travel with my husband.
Believing
I’ve been spending a lot of time since we’ve been back reconnecting with my stories. I’m working on a young adult novel about a sixteen-year-old girl who finds her voice, her power, and her faith. It’s a story I wish I’d had back when I was that age so that I wouldn’t have felt so alone with my struggles. My hope is that this story will help others who struggle with self-worth, self-belief, and openness to discover their spiritual side.

Is there a book you wish you had available to you when you were a teenager? Let me know! I love reading your comments. Until next month,
Kate
