Burnout Is REAL

We all have responsibilities. There’s no escaping that reality. We get up every morning, we get kids off to school, we go to work, we come home, maybe go to the gym, maybe not. We do what we can. But we are human beings, not robots. What do you do when you feel burned out? What do you do when your soul craves more?

Over the Easter weekend, I felt the need to un-plug from social media and only use my phone when necessary. We had family visiting and I wanted to be present with them. It was not only freeing, but I noticed the world around me more. The sound of the birds welcoming Spring, the sun on my face, the Earth beneath my bare feet in the grass. But most importantly, connecting with others fully with no distractions. I fell in love with life again.

We need laughter, connection, adventure, love, beauty, space to take ‘time out’ from our busy schedules. We need to give ourselves permission to let go of our to-do lists and feed our souls. With this pause, I brainstormed about the things I’ve wanted so much to do, but felt like I didn’t have time because of self-imposed deadlines. As I thought about the things I wanted to do, I got more excited! I felt like a kid again, playful, spontaneous, full of life.

Here’s a bit of a list. Ask yourself, when was the last time you:

Called a friend, instead of just texted

Visited that new bookstore that opened

Sat and watched a sunset

Took a nap with your beloved pet

Took yourself on a date

Planted some flowers. Or better yet, bought yourself flowers!

Slept in for a change

Visited a museum

Took a nature walk

Volunteered somewhere

Wrote a poem because you felt inspired

Took a pottery class, cooking class, or whatever your heart longs to learn.

We are all creative beings who need time to day dream, let go of our to-do lists, and just Be, even if its only for a day. You’ll be glad you did. “Whatever is meant for you will not pass you by.”

Please leave your comments below! I’d love to her your thoughts and ideas.

Grateful for you,

Kate
