SAVOR THESE LAST FEW WEEKS OF SUMMER…AND LET’S GET READY TO MAKE FALL PLANS!!
Hello friends and fellow subscribers!! My hope is you’re still having a fantastic summer. Whether it’s been restful, full of adventure, or busy in a way that has fulfilled you.
My summer began with the celebration of my middle son’s union to the love of his life, surrounded by family and friends in Lake Tahoe, CA. We are beyond blessed and grateful as our family expands. I spent the rest of the summer renovating a flower garden. At first, I felt completely overwhelmed; it seemed like an impossible task. But the more I worked on it, the more I found joy in it and a sense of accomplishment. We also welcomed family and friends to the Cape in July. It was a busy time, but I savored every moment, as we all know summer will soon be a memory.
We went to outdoor concerts, grilled outside, and savored the cool evenings. On hot days, we spent time on the beach or out on the water. During this time, I realized that when we take the time to put our to-do lists on hold, including our writing goals, we create time to find Joy. For me, that’s where the creative juices start flowing again, that’s where the magic happens. In those moments of daydreaming, walking, or even weeding the garden, my mind visualized stories. I realized we can’t chase them; we have to let stories come to us. During this time of ‘just being,’ I was surprised at how much more productive I felt. I wasn’t holding every thought captive, and for me, that’s where stories are born and bloom.
My usual tactic is to hold on tight to my writing goals over the summer. But after taking a break and enjoying life, I felt like I came back refreshed and ready to set goals for the fall.
During my break, I fell back in love with the revision of a middle-grade novel based on Cape Cod that’s near and dear to my heart. It’s about an unlikely friendship, hope among loss, and adventure. If you’re a ‘boy mom’, or even if you’re not, this story will give you all the good feelings of summer.
Do you find yourself productive in the summer, or go with the flow and enjoy the season? Sometimes our brains need that much-needed break. With these last weeks of summer coming to a close, do yourself a favor and savor the warm days and cool nights. Let your mind wander and see what blooms!
