Bee Yourself: Thoughts and Musings on Imposter Syndrome

How many times do you look in the mirror and say, Who am I to write this book? Or who am I to do an author interview, or have my own website? Join me while I explore the truths I see behind imposter syndrome.

Imposter syndrome comes from doubting our own abilities, our message, or our gifts and talents. It comes from not believing in ourselves and our work. If we create from our hearts and that deepest part of us as human beings, how can I doubt who I am and what I do?

We need to stop comparing ourselves to others. Where others are on their journey is unique to them. We’re all born into a life with circumstances or physical things we can’t change. But we can change how we perceive ourselves by adopting a more positive and loving outlook on what we have to offer. Social media, in particular, makes it hard not to be distracted by someone else’s success. Like who got an agent, how many books they’ve sold, or who landed that big book contract with their dream editor.

Each and every one of us is put on this earth with a unique and important set of talents and gifts that we shouldn’t feel in a rush to bring forth. Your time will come. Just don’t give up! It is not a race, nor a competition. It is YOUR journey and no one else’s. A journey that is unique to YOU.

I like to compare where I am on my journey with the laws of nature. Trees don’t compare themselves with other trees. They might struggle for space, but they still grow the best they can where they are. They also seek community by sending out signals through their roots to other trees. And Daisies don’t say, “Hey, I wish I were a raspberry pink begonia.” Daisies were created to be just as they are, to bring a different joy to us than a hydrangea or a morning glory.

Plant your roots where you are, know you’re right where you’re meant to be. Unfurl your wings and show the world who you are. We need YOUR unique talents. You are beautiful and talented because you are YOU.

As always, leave me a comment!
